DORE CHAPONICK JR. SET FOR US ROTAX GRAND NATIONALS

"Chaponick Jr. looks for redemption following heartbreak at 2010 edition"

July 18, 2011

Miami, Florida - 2011 Florida Winter Tour Rotax Junior Champion Dore Chaponick Jr. is set to descend upon the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for the Rotax Max Challenge United States Grand Nationals. After enduring heartbreak at last year’s Nationals, the DeFrancesco Racing team member is determined this year to walk away the champion.

Competing in the ultra-competitive Rotax Junior category, Chaponick Jr. will enter the event as one of the favorites. Coming off the heels of three victories and the overall class championship at the Florida Winter Tour has him in fine form heading into the premiere event on the US Rotax calendar. Chaponick Jr. looked poised to secure the 2010 title at New Castle Motorsports Park, taking the pole position and two heat race victories. Starting the final off pole, disaster would strike for the rising talent on lap eight when he drove off track as the result of a broken chain.

“I was so close in New Castle last year. After being quick all weekend, to suffer a mechanical failure was really heart wrenching. I can’t wait to get out on the track at Miller as I will be looking for redemption,” stated Chaponick Jr. as he prepares for unofficial practice at the Utah complex. “I have a lot of faith in the FA Kart and my DeFrancesco team. I know that we will race up front and my plan is to leave as a Grand National Champion.”

With Grand National Champions in Rotax DD2, Masters, Senior and Junior earning berths on Team USA for the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, set for November 23-26 at the Al Ain Raceway in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, Chaponick Jr. has already secured his position on the team via his FWT championship. This will give the 14-year-old pilot a slightly different game plan than his rivals, but rest assured Chaponick Jr. will do everything to earn the coveted title.

“To be named a US Rotax Grand National Champion is a goal I have been trying to achieve for several years. I was vice-champion back in 2007 when I raced in Mini Max, and I really feel that this is my year. I already have the invite to the Worlds, so all my focus can go into winning the title,” continued Chaponick Jr.

Official on track action begins Wednesday with practice while qualifying and two heat races are slated for Thursday. Friday will see the final heat along with last chance races, with prefinals and finals taking place on Saturday. Fans can follow all the action online starting Thursday, July 21 at www.kartracingnetwork.com complete with live video and timing and scoring.
